COSMOS COPA NYC / 2014 SEMIFINAL: MATCH 1 PREVIEW

2014 SEMIFINAL: MATCH 1 PREVIEW

By Ben Tetelman

NYC Ireland and NYC France play for a spot in the finals on Sunday, July 27 at 9 a.m. ET from Flushing Meadows Park, Field 8.

After great finishes in the quarterfinal round, NYC Ireland and NYC France will face off at Flushing Meadows Park tomorrow for the semifinals of Cosmos Copa.

NYC Ireland proved just how well they could play this morning in their 3-1 defeat of NYC Poland. Throughout the tournament, the Irish have been extremely organized and able to combine all over the field for successful offensive attacks. With a decisive defeat against the two-time Copa champions, NYC Ireland have a reason to believe that they can capture their first ever championship in 2014.

NYC France proved once again that they could close in monumental situations. Les Bleus of NYC battled in their quarterfinal match against NYC El Salvador this morning. Physical play dominated most of the game, and neither team was able to find the back of the net after 90 minutes.

In the penalty shootout France remained calm and eventually defeated El Salvador with a lovely save from their star keeper. Although the 2013 champs are that much closer to reaching their second straight final, today’s match showed how vulnerable NYC France can be at times.

Tomorrow's match will begin at 9 a.m. ET at Flushing Meadows Park, Field 8.
