COSMOS COPA NYC / COPA FINAL AT HOFSTRA’S SHUART STADIUM

COPA FINAL AT HOFSTRA’S SHUART STADIUM

By Ben Tetelman

This Saturday, at Hofstra’s James M. Shuart Stadium, defending Cosmos Copa champions NYC France will take on NYC Gambia in the 2014 tournament final. Shuart Stadium, home of the New York Cosmos, was host to some of the greatest moments in the team’s history. The Cosmos won their first NASL Championship there in 1972, and returned to the stadium last year after a hiatus of nearly three decades.

The 2014 Cosmos Copa final will be played on August 2 at 3:30 p.m. ET, before the Cosmos take on the Carolina RailHawks in an NASL fall season tilt.

This year marks the sixth annual Cosmos Copa. The tournament kicked off in 2009, and the 2014 tournament featured a record-breaking 40 teams, each representing a different nation.

There can only be one winner come Saturday, and with the amount of talent on both sides, fans are sure to get a great final.
