NYC FRANCE DEFEATS NYC HAITI 4-2 TO ADVANCE TO QUARTERFINALS
By Brett Malamud (@Brettnyy)
NYC France defeated NYC Haiti on Sunday to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Cosmos Copa. NYC France striker Vincent Bezecourt scored on a rebound in the 18th minute to push the lead to 1-0. NYC Haiti striker Jean Baptiste Frizon responded just four minutes later to tie the game up. In the 45th minute, NYC Haiti scored again to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. That’s when NYC France took over the game. With goals from strikers Stephen Brossard, Raoui Lassoued and Charles Fayet, NYC France finished with a 4-2 victory.
“I’m so happy,” Fayet said. “I’ve been playing in the Cosmos Copa for three years and haven’t scored a goal in a few years so I’m very happy.”
Although France’s game was up-tempo in the second half, Fayet attributed the comeback to NYC France’s patience.
“We play a good game,” Fayet said. “We didn’t panic. We took our time and that allowed us to come back into the game.”
While NYC France plans are to return to the finals for the third straight year after winning the Cosmos Copa back in 2013, Fayet enjoys playing with some of the teammates that he’s had over the last few years.
“It’s a lot of fun and I’m really happy. I’ve got to play with my friends as well as the new guys on the team. I just like to go back to the finals again.”
Up next for NYC France is NYC is the quarterfinals against NYC Greece, which takes place on July 25 at Randall’s Island at 5 pm.
