NYC USA LIGHTS THEIR OWN FIREWORKS ON JULY 4TH
By Brett Malamud (@Brettnyy)
On a day celebrating the independence of the United States, NYC USA had some fireworks of their own in a 4-1 win over NYC Albania. NYC USA took momentum early, scoring the game’s first goal in the second minute. After NYC Albania forced a tie via a penalty kick late in the first half, NYC USA responded with three straight goals in the second half to push themselves to victory. Although there was plenty of offense, defense was the key component in the Americans’ strategy.
“We always knew that we were going to be good defensively,” NYC USA President Joe Ruesgen said. “We specifically knew that we had the talent going forward, that as long as we maintained a nice, tight defense, we’d be alright."
Ruesgen praised NYC Albania, and explained that NYC USA was ready for the challenge.
“We figured that this game was going to be our most challenging,” Ruesgen said. “We knew that a lot of the guys were going to be very technical players. That doesn’t mean that we’re going to take the other teams any easier though.”
The Americans have two more games to look forward to in Sunday’s matchups with NYC Argentina and NYC Croatia. NYC USA is set to kickoff the first game on Sunday afternoon at 12:45 pm against NYC Argentina, who sits tied atop group H with them.
